Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Ummi method in Qur’anic learning within Islamic educational institutions. The Ummi method was chosen because it emphasizes the mother tongue approach, direct reading, repetition, and compassion, which are believed to enhance students’ reading skills. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the Ummi method is effective in improving students’ ability to read the Qur’an accurately, fluently, and in accordance with tajwid rules. The systematic stages of learning, from opening to evaluation, make the teaching process more structured and help students develop discipline and self-confidence. Interviews with students revealed that the use of rhythm in reading made the learning process more enjoyable and reduced boredom. Meanwhile, teachers noted that the method facilitated classroom management, although challenges such as high training costs and strict teacher certification requirements remain. Theoretically, this study contributes to strengthening Qur’anic literacy through a humanistic and contextual learning approach. Practically, it serves as a reference for teachers and Islamic educational institutions in implementing effective Qur’anic learning strategies. Future research is recommended to examine the impact of the Ummi method on students’ understanding of Qur’anic meanings and its integration with digital media.
