Abstract

This study aims to explore the practice and meaning of cross-disciplinary experimentation in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) within higher education, taking Universitas Al-Qolam Malang as a case study. This experimentation represents an academic innovation in developing fiqh by integrating the values of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah An-Nahdliyyah with multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary scientific approaches. Employing a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, this research seeks to uncover the epistemological awareness of the academic community in constructing fiqh as a dynamic and contextual body of knowledge. Data were collected through library research and field studies involving observation, interviews, and document analysis of key academic references such as the Curriculum Guidelines (2021), Research and Community Service Guidelines (2021–2025), and the Maslahah Village and Family Movement programs. The findings reveal that Universitas Al-Qolam’s scientific paradigm, grounded in Aswaja An-Nahdliyyah, produces epistemological harmony between text, reason, and social reality. The transdisciplinary approach implemented through the Maslahah Village Index (IDM) and the Maslahah Family Index (IKM) has successfully positioned fiqh as both a framework for social research and a tool for public welfare transformation. Theoretically, this study contributes to the development of contemporary fiqh epistemology, while practically, it offers a model for fiqh learning and research based on maq??id al-syar?‘ah that is adaptive to modern social issues.
